Summary
This article outlines the recommended procedure for transferring policy lifecycles to a different storage repository within N2W. It also addresses common inquiries regarding the implications of modifying the storage repository associated with a policy.
Important: Never delete an S3 bucket from the AWS console before removing it from the N2W user interface.
Description
- Identify the Policy: Determine which backup policy you intend to migrate to a new storage repository.
-
Create a New Storage Repository (if necessary): Configure the new storage repository in N2WS where you want future backups to be stored. For instructions on creating a new repository, refer to the following link:

Update the Backup Policy:
- Navigate to the Policies section in the N2W console.
- Select the policy for which you wish to change the storage repository.
-
Choose "Lifecycle Management," then scroll down to "Storage Settings." Update the "target repository" to the one created in step 2, as illustrated in the screenshot below:
- Verify the Change: Click "Save". All subsequent copies to your storage repository will be directed to the new repository.
Frequently Asked Questions
What occurs if I change a backup policy's storage repository?
Upon changing the storage repository associated with a backup policy, the policy will utilize the new storage repository for all future backups from the time of the change.-
What happens to the backups in the previous storage repository?
All backups residing in the previous storage repository remain unaffected and can still be restored, provided they have not been deleted from the repository.
Additional Notes
Decommissioning a Storage Repository:
If you plan to decommission a storage repository, ensure that all required backups are either migrated or that their accessibility from the new repository has been verified.Backup Retention:
Please be attentive to your backup retention policies to prevent the inadvertent deletion of critical backups. By adhering to these steps, you can efficiently transition your policy lifecycles to a new storage repository while retaining access to existing backups.
